Hopeless Malaysia

I had given up hope on this country.. totally. I don't think Malaysia will become any better sooner... Fuck, not even later. After the revealing of police abuse through the papers, the police doesn't seem to give a fuck about the abuse and target on the person who film the abuse instead! Malaysia feels like a mafia controlled state. The people are extorted by the police on a frequent basis instead of the mob. The people are abused and humiliated on a daily basis once they are thrown into the lock up. Fuck, we can't even report the police to the Anti Corruption Agency because we might risk a counter suit against us by a pissed off police.

Unless the government do something to clean up the police force totally, Malaysians will have to live their lives in fear from both criminals and POLICE alike
.

Wow Mum, we are in the headlines again!!

Is it just me or Malaysia always made international headlines for the wrong reasons? It seem that we are all famous worldwide for the wrong reasons. Just look at the recent headlines yesterday about the now infamous video clip about the abuse of Chinese Nationals. A few hours later we made headlines internationally.

I guess we should add "police abuse" to our nation's resume together with piracy, human rights, road rage and snatch thefts.

What's the point...

..of the fight against graft and those stupid police badges claiming them to be clean when a normal Malaysian like you and I can't even lodge a report regarding a police officer claiming him/her is corrupted? I find it really funny when I read today's The Star headline regarding the Cabinet asking a policeman to drop a suit against a student who reported him. Read the news here.

I don't know about you guys but to me it sounded like a case of an old chinese saying "the thief shouting the word 'thief!'". Well at least the Cabinet is doing something right this time.

The Snake and the Throne

This story is based on a true story written by yours truly. ^_^

Once a upon a time, there lived a snake with a big ambition. This snake here wants to rule the Celestial Empire. Unfortunately for him, the Empire can only be ruled by a Dragon (the chinese snake-like dragon not the Western Dinosaur-like Dragon). Before we go any further let's have a look at how the Celestial Empire works.

Year after year a new dragon will be selected by the Wisemen Council. Once selected, the dragon will have the power to rule the Celestial Empire along with a few other selected few to help him. As you can see, being a dragon ruling the Celestial Empire is no easy task, since the Celestial Empire is very vast in terms of land and wealth. A mismanagement will costs the Empire greatly so there is a need of selecting a capable dragon each year. A dragon can stay in power more than one year if its people and the wisemen thinks he is capable enough. Unfortunately leading such a huge empire usually will exhaust the dragon greatly and the chances of the dragon to retire after it finish its term is very high.

Ok, enough about the Empire. Now let's get back to the snake. As I had mentioned earlier, the ambitious snake wanted to rule the Empire. Unfortunately for him, he do not know that he isn't good enough for the job. So day after day he will proclaim loudly to the people that he will be the ruler of the land one day. Instead of improving his leadership, he dresses like a dragon, act like a dragon and talk like a dragon so that one day the people and the wisemen will be gullible enough to believe he is the next dragon they are looking for. To those who had never met the snake before will be tricked by his "dragonly" like appearance and might think he will make a good ruler but unfortunately for him, those who knew him will know he is only a dragon-wannabe.

So year after year he will try to convince people that he is a dragon, but year after year he failed greatly because he could not fool the people once they know the real him. Can the snake ever become a dragon one day and rule the Celestial Empire? Unless he can see his own weakness or else a snake can NEVER EVER be a dragon even if he acted like one.

Is this meant to be a joke?

I noticed this booth when I was on my way to class. Some student from the Engineering faculty of MMU is organising a trip to UM and this is what the booth looked like (snapped the picture on my way home from class just now when there is no one at the booth).

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Seriously, is the booth meant to be a joke or the organiser thinks UM's drop of 80 positions is indeed "world standard"? Or maybe he is brainwashed by the UM's vice-chancellor of thinking that UM performance this year is indeed "World Standard". I found myself laughing so hard that everyone from that booth is looking at me when I first saw that booth.

Things I don't understand

I just don't understand when people say:

A : I am a big fan of **insert singer name**.
Me: You mean you own all of his/her albums?
B : Nolah, I am not that richlah. I had all her mp3s in my computer.
Me: =.="

I just don't understand how people have the face of proclaiming to be a fan of a singer when they don't even buy a single original album to support their favourite singers.

R.I.P Eddie Guerrero

Eddie Guerrero, one of my favourite wrestlers of all time had just passed away. The official reason for his death is still unknown as there is no official autopsy report as I am blogging. Rumours are saying he died of a drug overdose. I am still in a state of disbelief right now after reading the news about his death.

Click
here to see the official report on his death. May he rest in peace.

My F.E.A.R review

Last week, my housemate Yu Xin told me he had bought a copy of F.E.A.R. After hearing this I grew excited. It actually made me to look forward to coming back to Melaka today (we were having our semester breaks). Despite listening to the complaints of Yu Xin, I decided to give F.E.A.R a try since nearly all of the critics both online and offline (including a whole bunch of forumers) had given this game such great ratings that the last time I had seen a rating so high in a First Person Shooter is Half-life 2's. After much anticipation I finally got to played it and boy AM I FUCKING DISAPPOINTED.

Here's what I think of F.E.A.R

Short Review
It's overhyped
It's overrated
It's graphics is one of the best out there
It's mediocre
It's frightening.... NOT
Last but not least it's definitely NOT WORTH THE HYPE

Long-ass Review
I just don't understand how critics rate this game as if it is one of the must play games of the year. The graphics is nice, the sound is ok, the storyline is definitely not it's selling point and last but not least the gameplay is mediocre at best. Monolith uses lots of cheap scare tactics which only work once on me and that's it. They fail to deliver the same type of scary environment you find in survivor horror games. Heck, it's not as scary as Doom or the Rivenholm (or issit Ravenholm?) level in Half-life 2. The only plus point to the gameplay is the excellent AI.

This game is seriously overhyped. It's even more overhyped than both Half-life 2 and Doom 3 put together and yet it just fall short of my expectations of that game.

Overall, I give this game a 6.5 out of 10 for its great graphics and some great use of physics DURING slow motion and of course great AI. Last but not least, I had never been both so excited and so disappointed in anything since Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Respect your elders they say >_<

Some of the elderly population should not be respected at all! Don't you hate those uncles and aunties that you didn't even know that act so high and mighty when they see young people? I had my share of encounters of some rude uncles and aunties that are very inconsiderate and act very disrespectful to young people.

I was on the bus to Genting and there was this uncle sitting in front of my girlfriend. The sun was shining towards our direction and when she tried to pull half the curtain to cover her beautiful face from being burn by the sun, the uncle in front of her pull it away and hogged the whole curtain to himself. When we tried to pull a little back (the curtain is very big actually) he just pulled it away. Not just that, just when I thought that was it some aunty comes along and shake my chair violently. She wants me to give way for her to take her seat and my chair is blocking her route. Instead of saying a polite "excuse me" she shook my chair violently and didn't speak a single word. Then I said out loudly to my girlfriend (on purpose) "What is wrong with people today? Can't they even say excuse me?". Fuck, don't they even know the saying "if you want people to respect you, you must respect others as well"? Maybe they think that they are immune to this saying as there is another saying that goes "Respect your elders" so that they can demand respect from anyone younger then them.

Well I can go on and on about my few more encounters in the LRT or Train Station or Bus Terminals but I think I stop here before this entry becomes a novel.

Malaysia Memang Boleh Episode III

As usual Malaysia is in the news for the wrong reasons. This time our government is blamed for failing to act on the piracy issue. Read the article on BBC here.

Well according to the article we are rank no.1 in the piracy game. This is the 2nd report I had come across stating Malaysia as the biggest exporter in pirated softwares, music and movies. The last one being last year which was reported by Gamespot. It seem that after a year Malaysia is still being able to maintain its position as a "superpower" in the pirated software, music and movies industry. Maybe soon you will see billboards on the roads stating "Terima Kasih, kerana sokongan anda, negara kami telah dinobatkan dalam 3 kategori iaitu 'Biggest Exporter of Pirated Software',
'Biggest Exporter of Pirated Software' dan 'Biggest Exporter of Pirated Software'" which is endorsed by the Government.

Will this happen in Malaysia?

Was reading an article on Rosa Park in Wikipedia and found this link attached to it, an article called the Jim Crow law which segregate the whites from the blacks. It is something like the South Africa apartheid but for the apartheid, it is more like minority setting the rules.

After reading the article a question struck me, "Will this law be introduce in Malaysia in the near future?". Malaysia might look like one united country on the outside, but on the inside all of us knows that racial tolerance is slowly fading away and it is not as strong as it use to be.

Let's hope that the dream of creating a Bangsa Malaysia will be fulfiled soon instead of this nightmare.

Babe of the Month: Yuko Ogura

Ok ham sap lous it's time for The Bear Cave's November edition of Babe of the Month (BOM). For this month's BOM we have the ever-cute Japanese girl... Yuka Ogura. Born 1st November 1983 (it's been a long time since I featured someone older with the last one being Rena Tanaka) this girl is from Tokyo. Despite her age of 22 she looks more like 16. So here's her pics.

Things that are uniquely Malaysian

I can't believe it, three entry within 3 hours. That's what happens when one had too much time to waste.

1. Whenever-something-goes-wrong-it's-not-my-fault attiude.
Whenever something bad happens, the involved Ministry will push the blame to someone else and most of the time they blame us, the innocent rakyat.

2. Boasting-even-if-we-suck-so-much attitude
I still remember that our DPM boasting on how Malaysia's GDP is higher than Ghana's when we are rank lower than most ex-Soviet countries with a hard-to-pronounce name that gain their independence way later than us (to view the rankings, click here). Another example is how UM boast they are the top 200 Universities in the World despite falling 80 places.

3. Screw-racial-unity attitude
With politicians shouting racist stuffs in the parliament and still get away with it, it is no wonder after so many years of independence, racial unity is still so far away. **CENSORED**

So there you have it, the three things (that I can think off) that make us uniquely Malaysian. Feel free to add more in the comments area.

Why can't local grads can't get hired (The Bear Cave Edition)

Woke up this afternoon and the first thing I do was read the newspapers (The Star). A glance at the headlines I am pissed. As usual they are blaming parents and grads on the local grads unemployment rate. Look, as much as the parents and the grads are to blame, the government should also share the blame.

Why can't grads get a job? Why can't higher education ensure grads a job? At the rate our government are giving University status to colleges, I can see why most of the companies out there do not trust the quality of education here. Not just that, you can see private colleges those with a size of a shophouse or smaller that is tied to some foreign university that is unheard of are beginning to sprout out like mushrooms after the rain. There is no control over the amount of private colleges in this country. At this rate, sooner or later we are going to become another India. Everyone you see on the streets are degree holders.

Another reason why companies refuses to employ local grads is simple, the quality of our Univeristies (especially public ones) are declining. Just look at UM. They drop 80 places in just one year and still they are celebrating as if they got number 1 and they seem that everything is ok. When you drop so many places in just one year the first thing you do is ADMIT your mistakes and learn from it. If I am the boss of some company (be it a small one) do you think I will employ grads from UM?

The last reason I am going to stress about is ENGLISH. Unless we have a market as big as China or have kickass technologies that can rival the Japanese, English is very important. Whether our UMNO politicians like it or not, when we get into the job market (private sector) the only chance we can use BM is when ordering food from mamak stalls or dealing with incompetent government workers. The government especially the stubborn Pemuda UMNO politians should wake up from their "blind nationalism" and start encouraging Malaysians to start learning English. They should as well stress the importance of English instead of avoiding it like the plague.

So there you have it, my second rant on this whole local grads unemployment thingy. Here's the link to my first one.

I am so embarass to be a Malaysian now...

After seeing the pictures from Lim Kit Siang's website (click here for the blog entry) I suddenly felt so embarass to be a Malaysian. I can hear the sounds of laughter by foreigners now when they ever saw these two pictures (provided they know how to read Bahasa Malaysia).

They are even celebrating with this result I wonder what will happen if they got up a rank next year. Maybe the government will declare a public holiday to honour UM then.

Vanilla Coke to be canceled? NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Was browsing Yahoo! news (as usual) and saw this. Good news is, it is only canceled in the US. Vanilla Coke had been my favourite soft drink ever since I first tasted it. The nice creamy taste of vanilla mixed with Coke, it's like drinking an ice cream float but only tastier. Its a surprise that it is not doing well in the US.

Hope they won't cancel it in Malaysia.... **prays**

Random Thoughts

Why is it ok for a BN MP to say shout some racist remark in the parliament when it is not ok for a normal citizen to talk about issues like racial equality?

Twin Towers on Fire....Literally

Was browsing through Yahoo! when I saw this headline: Fire Starts at Petronas Twin Tower.

First thought. Luckily it was in the middle of the night or else, being Malaysians, a stampede will occur among the crowd.

Malaysia Memang Boleh...Episode II

Got this from Bernama's site after reading Lim Kit Siang's blog.

Shafie said that in terms of points, the results achieved by UM were still good but owing to the introduction of the positions and the inclusion of more universities in the ranking, its position slid.

"Performance-wise, the UM is still good but because the points between one university and the next are too close, even missing two or five points can result in a big drop in position," he added.

Seems that my theory of UM wanting to break the world record of being the "World's Worst University" in 2 years is true after all. Maybe the taxpayers can give him a award for the "Most Thick-skinned Minister". Read the full report here.

Guess this is part of being uniquely Malaysian. We never admit our mistakes no matter what.

Things I can't stand in Friendster....

I just don't understand how some Friendster users abuse the messanging system in Friendster. Just when you thought chain mails and those touchy spam mails are only limited to the bulletin board, now people are doing that on your inbox. Sheesh... that's annoying, just annoying. Why can't they just spam the bulletin board instead like what I use to do all the time when I am bored with those useless quizes?

SELAMAT Deepavali and SELAMAT Hari Raya

See how I stress the word "Selamat"? That is because every year major festive seasons such as these (Chinese New Year included) are far from being Selamat(safe). Every year there are deaths on the road which can be very much avoided. The superstitious might say that the road is very "che" (haunted in cantonese) but the real reasons that there are so much death during these festive seasons are caused by drivers themselves. Seriously, Malaysians are very bad drivers. They have zero tolerance on the road. They curse and swear each time a n00b driver made "rookie" mistake on the road. They always wanted to get to the destination the fastest way possible regardless of their safety. Despite of newspaper reports on the total of deaths each festive season, Malaysian drivers seem to ignore it. With drivers like these, no wonder we are still stuck with the third world status.

To all the Malays and Indians, Selamat Hari Raya and Selamat Deepavali and please drive safely.

Random Thoughts

It's ironic that in some countries like Singapore, Muslims are fighting for their rights to a wear tudung (headscarves) to school while in Malaysia non-Muslim students are fighting their asses off to not wear it.

What happen to the freedom of religion which is stated in the constitution. Sigh~

Malaysia Memang Boleh...

Wow so many things happened when I was in KL. When I got back yesterday I found out that University Malaya had drop 80 places to 169th in THES University Ranking. Wow, that's really quite a feat. I mean, not everyone can drop 80 places in just one year you know. It must had took something to make them drop so much. Maybe the people in UM is thinking "Heck, if we can't get first, my as well settle for last since it's easier" and TADA! one year later they drop 80 places.

So guys, go easy on them because they are trying to put Malaysia on the map with yet another world record in two years time. "The Worst University in the World" record that is.
