Mega Review 3: Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas (PC)

How do you describe San Andreas? Its controversial, funny, violent and fun. Porting it from the PS2 to the PC means it is now officially beautiful. Yes, the great gameplay is now paired with good graphics in the PC version.

Ok the story start off with Carl Johnson (CJ) returning home to Los Santos from Liberty City, a city torn apart by gangs, to attend his mum's funeral. Upon his arrival he is framed by Officer Tenpenny, a cop so corrupted that he can make Malaysian cops look squeaky clean, of murdering another law enforcer. After being threaten by Tenpenny to arrest him unless he help him do his "chores" (no not cleaning his house), he is thrown into a rival gang's territory. Here's where the story starts to kick off with one twist after another. The whole story is excellent. The chracters are well developed and are very colourful. From the crazy crack-smoking hippy The Truth to the funny Triad leader Wu Zi Mu. Enough with the story let's go on to the gameplay.

Gameplay is awesome. You have three huge cities to play with and between each cities there are countrysides which make San Andreas one huge virtual playground. Besides that you have tons of vehicles to steal from and tons of side missions to complete. The freedom in San Andreas is nearly limitless. You can play pool, do stunts with a BMX, play basketball or kill random people to boost your stats. Yes, San Andreas had turn semi-RPG. Drive a car and your driving skills increase, kill people with a Uzi your uzi skills increase, go to the gym your body grows stronger and eat more you gain fats. Simply put, the gameplay is just awesome.

Like I mention earlier, the graphics for San Andreas is beautiful. The details in the buildings had been increased and you can actually enjoy the scenary once in a while and not laugh at the bad graphics. Sound-wise, the sound is not really that good. I have problems with listening to WCTR. It seems that the sound of WCTR seems kinda soft when I played it on my computer. The voice acting seems louder than the background and the surround sounds sounded more annoying than adding flavour to the game.

So what is my overall rating for San Andreas? I give it a 9.5 out of 10. If not for the sound I might gave it a 9.8 out of 10.
